Welcome to the IUB Medieval Studies 2021 Transcribathon!

About the Event

Thank you for visiting the Indiana University–Bloomington Transcribathon website. The Transcribathon is an annual event hosted by the IUB Medieval Studies Graduate Student Advisory Committee. This year, the Transcribathon will be held over the same weekend as the 96th Annual Meeting of the Medieval Academy of America, from Thursday, April 15th to Saturday, April 17th. Transcribathon participants do not need to register for the MAA conference in order to participate. Over the course of these three days, five teams will work to transcribe the copy of Guillaume le Clerc de Normandie’s bestiary found in BnF fr 24428 (ff.53r – 78v). For more information on transcription logistics and guidelines, please refer to our Rules & Guidelines.

This event is inspired by both L’Image du Monde Challenge and the La Sfera Challenge.

Materials and data for the IU MEST 2021 Transcribathon will be archived by Competition Archivist Alyssa Mertka.

The competition is sponsored by IUB Medieval Studies Institute, the IUB Medieval Studies Graduate Student Advisory Committee, and Stanford Libraries.
